The Havelock Mussel Festival was a great success once again – enjoyed by thousands of people from near and far! Thank you to all who supported this festival whether as a ticket purchaser, sponsor or volunteer with your support we hope to once again be able to donate funds to various community groups – over the past 10 years the festival has been able to donate almost $200,000.
Once again the Kono NZ Mussel opening competitions were one of the highlights with the Guinness Book of records attempts being beaten! Congratulations to Angela Fredericks of Kono NZ who retained her title.
Angela was due to give birth around the same time as the Havelock Mussel Festival, but was not letting the possibility of going into labour stop her! So, she stepped up to the table once again and was a clear favourite following her success last year.
Having secured the Gunniness World Record with her time of 1min 59sec at the 2014 festival, she managed to shave two seconds off her time, opening 100 mussels in 1min 57sec.
The Mussel Pot Mussel Hustle caused a lot of hilarity for those involved as well as those watching and Sanford’s Mussel Munch was once again well populated.
Chelsea Winter back by popular demand didn’t disappoint in the New Zealand King Salmon Cooking Marque with her tasty recipes delivered in a fun engaging manner along with Chef Chris Fortune. The marque was consistently packed to overflowing. The Evolve Jewellery taste competition was a clear hit with a fun element of celebrity tasters thrown in!
The fantastic line-up on the main stage including Benny Tipene, Onestep, Avidiva, Mitch Alderlieste & Hayden Lawrence and Marlborough Boys’ College Jazz Band.
All surrounded by delicious Marlborough food, wine, beer and of course delicious Greenshell Mussels made for a most enjoyable day out.
