About the festival

The Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival is held annually in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, NZ.It's the perfect blend of great music and entertainment to be enjoyed alongside delicious fresh food.

As well as the native NZ Green Shell Mussel the festival also celebrates New Zealand King Salmon and the Pacific Oyster which are also grown in the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds.

The Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival is a family friendly event, that always has something for everyone.

FOOD – We have over 40 food stalls, cooking displays from our celebrity chef and private cooking classes, cooking displays from local chefs and experts.Past celebrity chefs include Chris Fortune, Annabel Langbein, Nadia Lim, Two Raw Sisters & Michael van der Elzen.

MUSIC – on the main stage we kick off with a Kapa Haka performance then into a day of live musical acts.Past musical offerings have been The Black Seeds, Katchafire, Tiki Taane, Robinson & Zed.

ACTIVITIES for young & not so young – Two Kids zone’s, dress up competitions, public mussel opening competitions and the famous intercompany mussel opening competition which includes the Guinness World Record attempt.

INDUSTRY – learn about the local industry by visiting the industry tent which is packed full of interactive activities and information.

The Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival has been running since the inaugural festival in 2004 and was set up with two objectives…
To promote and advance the understanding and appreciation of the native Green Shell Mussel, after all Havelock is the Green Shell Mussel Capital of New Zealand.
&
To provide grants to community organisations, servicing Rai Valley, Canvastown, Havelock, Okaramio, Linkwater, Kenepuru and Pelorus Sounds for charitable purposes.
